Initially, chatbots worked like old answering machines. Businesses considered them merely as text-IVR redirecting users from one operator to another. The first breakthrough occurred with the appearance of "push-button bot interface" in messengers, which became the de facto standard for text-based bots. The second breakthrough was the development of speech-to-text systems, which made it possible to interact with systems using voice commands. The third breakthrough has happened thanks to AI-revolution, when bots became more "human" and got the honorable title "assistant".

The first chatbot prototypes were developed primarily for B2C interactions, i.e., as an first-level "answering machine" for potential clients. This type of interaction proved ineffective in the competitive environment for potential service customers and was virtually forgotten until the invention of GPT. The development of this approach resulted in widespread adoption of the B2B segment - using chatbots for internal support. Instead of serving external interests, text bots began to process internal requests, such as sending news or providing quick access to requested information.
