The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about AI applications in manufacturing is the automation of monotonous and repetitive tasks. AI robots assemble parts and package finished products much faster than regular factory workers. And most importantly, without errors. Autonomous lifting robots carry products to the warehouse and ship them to the delivery trucks. AI also monitors quality of manufactured products using computer vision, identifying defects and deviations.
Over years factories have accumulated big amounts of data and now this data is finally being used to train AI. Trained models now predict raw material needs, recommend optimal inventory levels and plan more efficient work schedules. AI evaluates the performance of individual workers and structures, identifying and identifying areas for improvement. The systems track key performance indicators (KPIs) and offer recommendations for optimization. This leads to increased productivity across the enterprise. True, one can only hope that AI will be truly impartial and won't, like humans, fire 100+ employees based on inappropriate metrics.
Every manufacturing company wants to reduce risks. Computer vision cameras warn of hazardous situations in real time and monitor compliance with occupational safety regulations. Using artificial intelligence, one can also significantly improve the efficiency of equipment maintenance. It's important not only to react to breakdowns but also to predict them. AI analyzes real-time data flows from various sensors and predicts when equipment will require next maintenance.
