Midjourney and Runway are both AI platforms for generating visual content (images and videos) based on text prompts. They use diffusion models and multimodal networks, offer customization options for resulting style, quality, realism and allow to use own images as examples/prompts. Both platforms are aimed at creative specialists: designers, artists, marketers. They offer free versions with limitations and paid subscriptions.
But Midjourney (founded in 2022) was the first graphics model on the market but still remains a small independent (and less-commercial) player. It focuses on creating artistic, visually expressive images. Its strengths are better style, composition and visual quality, especially in the genres of fantasy, surrealism and atmospheric scenes. The free version works via a Discord bot (using commands like /imagine) and paid - via a web interface.
