These companies use generative adversarial networks (GANs), deep learning algorithms and computer vision to create models and services that can generate high-quality and realistic images.
1
Fal AI
Country: USA | Funding: $337M
Fal is a cloud platform that provides developers with a variety of generative models for image, video, 3D and audio in a single location. Specifically, Fal provides an infrastructure layer for multimodal AI for Adobe, Shopify, Canva and Quora. Developers are provided with a library of over 600 ready-to-use models (including Flux, Nano Banana, Kling Video and Veo) via the API and H100, H200 and B200 virtual machines, as well as dedicated clusters with Fal compute resources for instant inference and rapid scaling from zero to thousands of GPUs. The platform includes tools for model rapid deployment, testing, production deployment and monitoring. Enterprises are offered private model hosting and model co-development options.
2
Stability AI
Country: UK | Funding: $256M
Stability AI is developing an open-source model for generating images from text descriptions - Stable Diffusion. The model enables creation of a wide range of image styles, including 3D, photography, painting, line art and more. The model can be installed on a private server or accessed via Stability AI API. The company also provides a Studio for editing images, transforming styles, up-scaling and improving image quality. In addition to the image generation model, Stability AI also develops text-to-video, -audio and -3D models and is collaborating with ARM to optimize its models for mobile devices. Stability AI is constantly facing legal action from stock photo companies like Getty Images for misusing their collection to train their AI-image generation system.
3
Midjourney
Country: USA
Midjourney is an independent community-funded research lab that created the first public text-to-image model on the market but still remains a small independent (and less-commercial) player. It focuses on creating artistic, visually expressive images. Its strengths are better style, composition and visual quality, especially in the genres of fantasy, surrealism and atmospheric scenes. The free version works via a Discord bot (using commands like /imagine) and paid - via a web interface. Midjourney uses a two-step moderation system: first, a quick scan for prohibited words/content, then a more in-depth analysis - it has restrictions on certain topics/images. It also launched a video generation model, which allows to create short video clips based on images prompts.
4
Krea
Country: USA | Funding: $83M
Krea.ai is AI design platform that intends to become one-stop shop for GenAI creatives. It provides tooling from multiple models, along with a custom interface aimed to make text-to-image generation and subsequent edits sent to those models significantly easier and more customizable. Each prompt is processed by Krea, which selects the models that it believes could give better results. Thus designers don't have to sort out and track the updates of each model. Besides the images the company is working on expanding its platform to support tools for video, audio and music generation. It also building more enterprise features, so far, the product is used by individuals and small teams.
5
Bria
Country: Israel | Funding: $66.5M
Bria is a visual generative AI platform for developers and business trained on 100% licensed data. Its business models are provided with enterprise open-source license and the company also offers custom-built industry models (for example for Ad generation) and APIs. All generated images are protected against copyright, trademark and privacy risks. The company also provides a developer toolkit for integrating visual generation features directly into software products. Seamless integration via APIs and pre-trained models allows to extend applications with advanced AI capabilities. The API toolkit enables perfect composition, style and commercial-grade quality.
6
Runware
Country: UK | Funding: $66M
Runware provides an API platform that enables developers to integrate generative AI for creating and transforming images, video and audio content. The startup has its own AI inference infrastructure for open-source models and provides day-one access (meaning, as soon as a model is released, it can run on Runware) and competitive pricing. Costs are reduced thanks to the Sonic Inference Engine, which runs on custom-designed AI hardware. Optimized model loading and unloading allows the service to support over 400,000 models and deliver any of them for real-time inference. Runware also partners with third-party AI cloud service providers to automatically re-route workloads when memory capacity increases.
7
Leonardo.Ai
Country: Australia | Funding: $38.8M
Leonardo AI is generative AI platform for content creation, targeting creative industries including gaming, advertising, fashion and architecture. Sample use cases include storyboards for video production or game character mockups. The platform allows users to create a series of images in a consistent style. Company's proprietary model is built on open-source technologies and trained using synthetic data and Creative Commons data. Users can also create and train their own image-generating models. An enterprise version is also available. It includes collaboration tools and allows hosting of assets in a private cloud. Enterprise users also have access to APIs, allowing them to build their own apps on the Leonardo.Ai platform.
